On January 16th at 2PM SGA hosted their 2025 winter trip for the students of PCCC. The winter trip gave students the opportunity to visit New York’s Museum of Broadway along with a chance to witness Broadway’s longest running musical Wicked. SGA also presented various raffles for students throughout the trip, prizes such as merch and headphones. The field trip focused on the impact and history of musical theatre and its cultural significance to New York and the Tri-state area.

During the tour of the Museum of Broadway, PCCC students gained insight on the historical events and timelines of Broadway and American musical theatre. New York’s Museum of Broadway displayed historical content from 1732 into the modern day.  The tour led students through rooms that represented each timeline and era with brief educational summaries, videos, props, and historical artifacts. Rooms were also dedicated to specific Broadway productions such as Phantom of the Opera, Hamilton, Wicked, and more! Additionally, the museum had sections providing details on the background work and technological side of theatrical productions. The information was displayed through educational videos, fabrics for costume design, and things such as stage lighting and audio gear used in past theatrical productions. Some of the rooms were interactive, allowing students to engage in the museum’s historical and informational content. A gift shop was also present, allowing students to purchase merchandise after the conclusion of the tour.

The performance for Wicked the musical took place at the Gershwin theatre at 6PM. New York’s Gershwin Theatre has housed Winnie Holzman’s Wicked for 21 years. Wicked has been one of Broadway’s longest running shows since its debut in June of 2003. This opportunity delivered an enlightening experience especially for PCCC students specializing in the arts and communications.

SGA’s 2025 winter trip provided an educational opportunity for a variety of PCCC students to learn and experience New York’s beloved art form. Through the Museum of Broadway and Wicked the musical, students could connect through their shared interest in theatre and the arts. Post trip, students voiced their excitement and fun for the field trip, experiencing community leisure time before the start of the Spring semester. Make sure to stay tuned for more events happening on campus!

Special Thanks to SGA and the PCCC community for organizing this field trip!
