December is one of the most exciting yet stressful months, given that it is nearing the end of the fall semester and finals are approaching. Amidst the hectic college life, it's very easy to feel overwhelmed, so to provide a rest, the Students Programming Committee (SPC) hosted a de-stress event on all three campuses. SPC felt the need to have a space where students could de-stress before finals and just have a good time with friends. The event had various activities to unwind and recharge, including gingerbread house building, cookie decorating, and a raffle for a gift. We also had pastries, hot chocolate, and coffee. We believe that having

events like these is very important for students to find a brief escape between classes and stressful exams. In addition, we had Christmas music to create a holiday ambiance and remind students that after the stressful time of finals, they would enjoy their winter/holiday break.

At our Wanaque campus for our de-stress event, we collaborated with the music department and had an open mic to create a more relaxing space. For catering, we had coffee, hot chocolate, tea, and different types of pastries. The event activities were making fun gingerbread houses and decorating holiday cookies. While we had our de-stress event, there also was an open house

where high school students and their families learned more about SGA and SPC as they stopped by our check-in table.

The Passaic campus had the help of the CSE staff and our amazing senator over at PAC, Tori. She did a lot of recruiting for the event and was there to help throughout the event:

“The PAC Campus De-Stress event went well. I was delighted to see a few students take a break and enjoy some well-deserved relaxation before finals. The warm glow of happy faces, welcomed by hot chocolate and some fun cooking and decorating, filled the cafeteria. It was great to witness the joy and togetherness, and even our dedicated staff members were able to join in the fun at the end”. - - -Senator Tori

In conclusion, we should hold a de-stress event every semester to help students relax and mentally prepare for exams. Stress management is very important for college students, especially during finals, given that if students are not mentally at their best, they won’t be able to give their exams their best. The intention of de-stressing is to provide stress relief so that they can perform their best on these exams and their other academic endeavors.
