‘Stucco’: A Poem by Jadelyn Villa

Breathe in, breathe out

A galaxy of shapes awaits you

Within the grain of your ceiling top

Greet your friends with open arms

Stretched toward the sky

And feel your grasp on this universe

Grounding you to this cloud of cotton sheets

Breathe in, breathe out

The head of the fawn grins down at you

Take solace in the paralysis

Breathe in, breathe out

The shell of the turtle spins to a stop

Channel your stability

There’s no need to quiver

Breathe in, breathe out

Don't worry any longer

For the plaster starship is taking off soon

Breathe in, breathe out

The wild bison marches across barren fields

Find the strength to persist

Among those who wouldn’t understand you

Breathe in, breathe out

The figure of a frog leaps toward the cemented cosmos

And a beckoning croak comes crawling

From the pit of your throat

Once more, I ask

Breathe in, breathe out

And you may proceed back homeward
